There is no doubt that we are now in a state of global emergency. This unprecedented worldwide crisis is a symptom of a much deeper problem: the current state of our consciousness; how we think about ourselves, and our world. With this in mind, I urge you to read and endorse the WorldShift Declaration. Thank you.

I've created the BIF because there are a number of volatile issues that need to be discussed openly and urgently. By "burning issue" I mean an issue that, if not resolved in time, could ignite a major fire whether locally or globally.

One such issue is the nuclear option. Do we continue to build and operate nuclear power plants, making the nuclear the staple energy source of the 21st century? Or do we begin to think about shifting to alternatives? We cannot conjure existing nuclear plants out of existence, but we could begin to shift to alternative technologies in a concentrated and coordinated manner. The rising worldwide debate triggered by the Japanese near-disaster gives us a chance to confront this question and hope to get a hearing for constructive proposals.

The nuclear option is the first "burning issue" to be raise in this Forum, to be followed by others, identified by authoritative, honest, and global thinking commentators.
